Job Evaluation and Compensation Analysis

How do you know if you are compensating your employees correctly and adequately taking into account both "external equity" (are they paid fairly compared to the competition) and "internal equity" (are they paid fairly based on the job requirements compared to other jobs in your organization)? SLS uses a nationally accepted tool where we analyze over 180 job characteristics to create a job score. This score is then used in comparison with other internal jobs to insure that you have classified the job fairly compared to other internal positions.

We then assist the client by using salary surveys and other empirical data to create a compensation plan that meets your organization’s marketing and compensation strategy.

Anti-Harassment Procedures, Investigations, and Training

SLS consulting assists clients in creating an Anti-harassment policy that complies with recommendations of the EEOC and the U.S. Supreme Court. In the event that your company is faced with a complaint, SLS conducts investigations, which are often seen as more objective by employees as compared to in-house investigations. SLS also trains both non-management and management personnel regarding identifying, addressing, and avoiding harassment in the workplace. Please also see our tabs regarding sensitivity training and presentation information
to learn more about our training courses, seminars, and workshops regarding sexual harassment and other harassment issues.

Human Resources Audits

Foreign - owned companies and smaller local businesses who have never had an HR professional may not be sure of the requirements of the many state and federal regulations in the employment arena. SLS can conduct a comprehensive HR audit and make necessary recommendations for the actions required to take steps toward compliance and to create a sound HR infrastructure in their organizations.

HR Policies and Handbooks

Legislation in many states is diluting the "employment at-will" doctrine. As a result, it is recommended that all employers revise their handbooks to display specific disclaimers in order to avoid litigation. SLS assists in editing or creating handbooks to comply with new laws and to properly communicate the changes to employees. Training and Speaking Engagements

SLS provides customized training programs for clients on many important issues facing managers today, such as sexual harassment, workplace violence, and management skills. We are also available to professional groups and associations for presentations and seminars of topics in the HR arena. See the Presentation Information page for more information. Look also at our Comments Page to read a sampling of what our attendees have said about our presentations.

Overtime Compliance

In April of 2004, the Department of Labor issued a revision of the Fair Labor Standards Act which includes changes in the classification of which employees are exempt from overtime pay. Employers should conduct a job analysis of each position to insure compliance. SLS will assist with the analysis, documentation, and communication with the affected employees.

Mergers and Acquisitions

Change in ownership of a company has a deep effect on employees. SLS can work with the acquisition/transition team to strategize employee needs and communications. We are available to assist employers through the Due Diligence process. We can also thoroughly investigate the employment practices and benefits of both parties and recommend solutions to ease the transition.
